About Our Church
TO MAKE KNOWN OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.
The Trenton Presbyterian Church was organized at the residence of Mrs. C. E. Burge, in the spring of 1900, as a Cumberland Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. J. M. Gill and the Rev. B. F. Watson with J. T. Harrell, S. D. Chesnut and C. E. Burge as Elders and J. W. Chesnut as deacon. The Sunday School was organized September 21, 1900, with J. T. Harrell as superintendent and S. D. Chesnut as assistant superintendent; Annie Burge as secretary and Gretta Burge as organist.
The Gothic, stone church was erected on a lot which was given by Mrs. Martha Chesnut Burge. Handsome memorial windows were gifts of the Chesnut family. Dedication of the completed church by the Rev. Ira Landrum of Nashville, Tennessee, was held on September 14, 1902.
Besides those already named, charter members were: Mrs. Margaret McElwain Chesnut, Miss Sallie Margaretta Burge, Miss Annie Lorena Burge, Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Harrell, Miss Carrie Belle Harrell, Mrs. Lute Bollinger Hunter, Mrs. Lillie Fulcher Layne, Miss Laura Fulcher, Mrs. Amanda Wakefield, and Miss Loula Wakefield.
When the union between the Northern Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was effected in 1906 to form are Presbyterian Church U.S.A., the church entered the union and became the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. of Trenton, Kentucky.
In January l907, the Women's Aid Society was organized with charter members.
Through a generous bequest in the will of a beloved charter number, Miss Carrie Harrell, the members were able to build the “Carrie Harrell Memorial", an educational building, which contains Sunday School rooms, a large assembly room, a kitchen and rest room. The addition was completed and dedicated December 18, 1960. At the came time, an organ was presented in memory of Mr. and Mrs. P.D. Payne by their son, Mr. Dillard Payne.
Although the Trenton Presbyterian Church has been affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America since 1906, it is affiliated now with the United Presbyterian Church U.S.A., and the Southern Presbyterian Church U.S. The merger, which occurred July 1, 1970, involved the Presbytery of Western Kentucky (USA) and the Muhlenberg Presbytery (Southern (U.S), forming the Presbytery of Western Kentucky (Union).
Our current Minister is Michael Bourland.
